About Pam Shanks:
In Pam’s first class, a child struggled to learn letter sounds while peers began to read. Determined to help, she focused her career on both Montessori and the education of children whose development is complicated by delay or disability. As the lead guide of an inclusive primary classroom at Raintree Montessori School and the Associate Head of School at Bowman School, Pam’s passion was, and continues to be, facilitating the match between Montessori and every child. Her classroom and administrative work included coordinating Raintree’s ground-breaking program of inclusion and mentoring teachers, interns, and school-based teams. In support of inclusive classrooms and programs, she has presented at numerous conferences, authored articles on inclusive Montessori education, developed online modules for teachers of students with deafblindness, and was a contributing author for Montessori Inclusion: Strategies and Stories of Support for Learners with Exceptionalities and The Handbook for the Inclusion of Young Children with Severe Disabilities. Her work culminated in a deep understanding of inclusive teaching strategies aligned with Montessori education. Currently, Pam provides professional development and student consultative services, while also writing a book designed to be a practical, classroom-based resource for parents, administrators, and teachers involved in the daily work of inclusive Montessori education.
